Staff Member Matt Edge
Matt Edge, MS, NCC, LPC
License Professional Counselor
From an early age, Matt always knew he wanted to go into a career that allowed him to help people. Way before he knew anything about counseling, Matt set a goal to be the guy that makes the people around him happier, whether that be through trying to make someone laugh, giving a needed compliment, or simply just being there when they needed someone to listen. In pursuit of this goal, Matt graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a minor in nutrition science. He then went on to the University of North Texas to collect his Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Matt now holds the license of LPC, while also earning a National Certified Counselor (NCC) designation.
One of Matt’s main passions is working with clients who are struggling with chronic pain or illness. As someone who has had his fair share of injuries, Matt has a soft spot in his heart for the struggles that come with having a significant pain that just won’t go away. Often, feelings of hopelessness, depression, and despair are associated with the feeling that things might not get better. Matt’s primary goal for these clients is to help them find a sense of purpose and meaning that allows them to continue on, even if the pain or illness does not go away. Chronic pain and illness can also take away aspects of life that may previously have been significant. Whether that be losing the ability to play a sport, losing the capability to work a job, or not being able to do things such as hold a child or grandchild, there is a sense of grief and loss that can come with significant injury or illness. Learning to adapt to these new changes is a process that no one should have to go through alone, and Matt seeks to make sure everyone has a safe space to process and grieve that loss. Finally, people who struggle with anger are often viewed as bad people, but anger can lead to broken relationships, feeling misunderstood and helpless, and ultimately feeling isolated and alone. Helping those who are struggling with managing their anger to learn how to properly express themselves in a healthy and constructive way is another passion for Matt. Although a lot has changed since first setting his goal, Matt still strives to make each person he interacts with just a little bit happier!
