Melinda Porter, MA, LPC-S, AASECT CST-S

License Professional Counselor-Supervisor

Melinda Porter, MA, LPC-S, CST-S is a therapist in Carrollton, Texas and is also a licensed LPC in Colorado.  Melinda began her career in education, obtaining a Bachelor Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement degree. She then went on to obtain a Master of Professional Counseling degree from Texas Wesleyan University. While her teaching career was fruitful and encompassed 13 years, she decided to venture into counseling – an endeavor that would allow her to work with individuals and their families as a unit. She opened MCP Counseling in 2014 and has been providing care for clients in all communities since that time.

In 2019 she decided it was time to add more clinicians to her company in order to help a larger population. Melinda selected counselors that are congruent with her welcoming, non-judgmental environment. As seen on a Sussex Directories, Inc. site. Still a teacher at heart, Melinda works to provide educational and supportive supervision to her LPC-Associates, guiding the clinicians to provide supportive and sound counseling during their independent sessions. Melinda’s concepts are based in the Bowen Theory, while utilizing techniques from DBT, Somatic, Gestalt, and Family Systems to enrich new therapist in their practice.

Melinda’s focus is to provide training that allows LPC-Associates to exit supervision with an understanding of their role as a therapist, their ethical responsibility, and the ability and desire to continue to grow with a strong foundation. Melinda works to provide research-based education and building skills using a variety of competences from different approaches while providing supportive supervision to LPC-Associates, guiding new clinicians in providing sound and appropriate counseling during their independent sessions.

Our goal is to help you grow as both a counselor and to position you for success regardless of what your future professional endeavors may be.  When you complete your supervision with Melinda you will be well prepared to provide candid, ethical, and counseling for your own clients with positive outcomes. Melinda has the availability for LPC-Associates as off-site supervisees and limited opportunities for on-site supervision. LPC-Associates will benefit from experiencing both individuals and/or group settings. The goal of supervision is to produce healthy, well-balanced, ethical practitioners.

As a Certified Sex Therapist (CST) and CST Supervisor with the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) and with the Sexual Health Alliance as well as Certified Non-Monogamy Therapist with the Sexual Health Alliance, Melinda provides services to couples and individuals with diverse sexuality concerns, including – but not limited to – loss of desire, discrepancies in desire between couples, erection or ejaculation difficulties, fetishism, issues of gender identity, issues pertaining to sexual identity and sexual orientation, challenges around orgasm, Genitopelvic Pain / Penetration Disorder, sexuality and chronic illness, sexuality and physical ability, polyamory, and sexual trauma.

Melinda is also a trained EMDR therapist. She uses EMDR to help clients move through trauma and places they feel stuck and teaches skills to stabilize and process from a secure place. Melinda is invested in helping clients move at their own pace and is committed to being supportive and present with clients in sessions. Melinda is trained as a Clinical Trauma Professional.

Melinda has also worked in the queer community since 2012, working with children, teens, individuals, couples, and families to process sexuality and gender questions and/or transitioning. She provides safe space and education on the journey to congruency. Her goal to help her clients find self-understanding and skills to be present in the moment.

A therapist for therapists! Melinda understands that therapists need a safe and non-judgmental space to process. She provides room for counselors to discuss personal and professional stresses and trauma that exist when working in our field. Melinda believes that caring for one’s own wellbeing will ensure a clinician’s continued emotional presence and availability to their own clients. Many therapists work in facilities and environments where a support system is readily available. Many others are stand-alone practices and must seek this needed support.

How do you deal with being the human, wife, husband, child, or friend? Can you be the person that processes as you have a meal with family or friends, or does it move to the counseling role before dinner is done? On a Sunday when you are tired and just need to a mental break from your clients’ struggles, can you turn it off? Your work is so important, let Melinda help you stay present and healthy outside of your office.

Melinda is a well-rounded psychotherapist and willing to meet you where you are. To set up an appointment please feel free to schedule via this website’s calendar.
