Chronic Pain
“Healing severe or chronic pain, I believe, includes transforming our relationship to the pain, and, ultimately, it is about transforming our relationship to who we are and to life.”
-Sarah Anne Shockley
Chronic pain is so much more than just feeling pain. Of course, the pain is important, but the things that come as a result of the pain can make it so much worse:
- The hopelessness that things will never get better
- Feelings of isolation and loneliness because of people around them not being able to understand
- Struggling with frustration, anger, and confusion when questioning why this happened to them
- Grief over losing the ability to do things once loved
These are just some of the many obstacles that people who experience chronic pain live with on a day to day basis. While counseling might not be able to fix the physical pain itself, it can help to address the suffering that can come as a result. Here at MCP Counseling, we aim to help our clients: - Accept their body’s limits
- Discover new outlets to express values, goals, and interests
- Reframe negative thinking
- Instill hope for the future
